Operating system
The Operating System or OS sits between your hardware and software. An OS is software too!
It controls, organises and manages the interactions between all hardware and software, if something is plugged into your computer, the OS is controlling it.

The OS controls every input on a machine, for example, when you type the OS converts that data into words on the screen. Another example is using programs, when you click an icon the OS runs the program code in the program, making it start.
UI (User interface)
The user interface is the home page on the machine, the website pages, and most other parts of the computer like folders and files. Almost all programs have a UI which is meant to be as easy to understand and use as possible.
GUI (Graphical User Interface)
The GUI is the interface that you are met with on programs, files, websites and when you start the machine, they are different for different OS's. (see above)
CLI (Command line Interface) |
A command line interface is the older version of GUI as such, however it is still used today for basic machine commands like start up. It is a black screen with white code and users at the time GUI didn't exist had to learn a strange plethora of commands to make the machine do anything, which at the time wasn't much.
